Dog Breeds- Do You Have a Favorite?

Almost everyone has a favorite dog breed or two on their list. And some dog owners are super passionate about their breed of dog. Look at the number of breed specific clubs there are on pugs, golden retrievers or bulldogs. Many of these clubs are created to support the protection and preservation of the breed, while others are setup for owners to socialize and get their dogs together on outings.

The American Kennel Club which is the biggest purebred dog registry in the world, officially recognizes 184 distinct dog breeds. With trends in cross-breeding, there are many more being created everyday. Take the Labradoodle for example – which is a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle. This mix was planned to create an allergen-free guide dog to help people with fur and dander allergies.

While we won’t get into the politics of this topic, one thing is for sure, people are sure passionate about the breed of their dogs! Take a look at one website’s thoughts on the Top 10 Dog Breeds.

Top 10 Dog Breeds

The website created their own list of the top 10 dog breeds. To make the list, they looked at all varieties, large & small. They were rated based on their personality & demeanor, ease of training. Plus of course their cute & cuddly factors.

Not only do they rate their favorites, but also include quite a few interesting facts about each. For example – did you know the the huskies don’t make good watch dogs, because they love their people too much? Super sweet!

Without further ado – here’s the list!

Is there any dog that doesn’t deserve to be on this list?

Jackie Ancelet - April 15, 2015

I wanted this whole video for the labrador retriever to be #1 then #3
rolled around and i was the golden retriever and a lot of people stereotype
the two breeds and one and so I thought that was it for the lab but I
literally screamed when I saw labs were #1 :) makes me happy!
and I wish bull terriers were on the list somewhere but all these breeds
definitely deserved to be on this list!
